Tips for a fair competition
- Use a handicap if abilities are mixed. A common formula gives each bowler 80% of the difference between their average and a 200 baseline, which keeps beginners competitive without making it meaningless for the good players.
- Score a three-game series rather than a single game. One game is mostly luck; three starts to reflect who actually bowled well.
- Rotate lanes between rounds. Lane conditions vary more than people expect and a sticky approach can quietly decide a league.
- Record total pins as the score so the standings sort sensibly even when two people finish level on wins.

How does a bowling handicap work?
You take the difference between a bowler's average and an agreed baseline, usually 200, and award a percentage of it as bonus pins. Eighty percent is standard. It lets a 120-average bowler genuinely compete with a 180-average one without either feeling patronised.
